Thank you for this privilege to come on your platform and share my story. My name is Adewuyi Victoria Anuoluwapo. I finished from Government high school, Gwagwalada Abuja. I am from Oyo State. I am currently studying political science at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana under the Master Card Foundation scholarship. My hobby is learning different languages and currently I am learning Chinese, French and Korean.
Impressive, what inspired you to seek scholarship and to study outside Nigeria?
I would say my Aunt did inspired me. She finished from University of Ilorin as the best graduating student in her department during her undergraduate days. She won a scholarship for her masters in Nigeria and currently running her PhD program in South Africa also with a scholarship. I couldn’t get admission into a Nigerian university for my undergraduate studies. My aunt encouraged me to apply for a scholarship and I was a bit skeptical about it. I picked up that challenge to apply for undergraduate scholarship under the masters card foundation and I got it.
Smiles, I love your Aunt. Were you rejected?? how did you handle it? share your experience.
Yes, I was rejected six times. As usual, I felt sad but I didn’t give up. I kept pushing through, making research and adequate preparation.
Did you feel excited after getting one? Share your experience.
Yes, I was really really happy getting a scholarship for my undergraduate studies was a miracle. I am grateful to God for that.
From your experience, what are the needful things to be done before securing a scholarship?
I would say it’s all about the individual. It is not enough to wish but have a wilful power within, the tenacity and determination. Also, prepare necessary documents like your passports, results etc. To get undergraduate scholarship, you don’t need to have A parallel in your results but make sure you have good grades. Scholarship requirements differs, check out the one you are interested in and work with it.
Studying outside Nigeria, how does it feel?? Stressful, tasking or quite with ease? Share your experience.
Well, for me, I would say it has been pleasurable and not very stressful. You need to be up and doing too, attend classes and study well.
What are your words of advice to intending scholarship applicants.??
I will say commit your ways to God and trust him. Also, don’t give up on yourself. Keep pushing. I almost gave up but alas the last one I applied to was the one I got. It is always too soon to give up.
