Upon transition from the secondary school into the university, I needed to meet the requirements which are West African Examination Council (WAEC) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). This was the general bedrock for schools in Nigeria to admit any prospective candidate to that school. However, this narrative is not the same for scholarships and awarding bodies.
Scholarship requirements varies with each school and awarding body. Sometimes ago, I was thrilled to know that a renown university in Europe do not require recommendation letter while making your application to the school.
Scholarships have different requirements such as test scores, grade points, artistic or academic talents while others depends on the requirements set by each donor e.g ( background, ethnic or gender factors).
This makes the access to scholarships discriminatory and accessible only to a small number of individuals.
WHAT TO DO.!
Find the scholarship that you can meet its requirements and work with it. Not all scholarships should be YOUR scholarship. This helps you to chanel your energy properly. Scholarship applications requires energy, you do not want to dissipate that energy on applications that you have a lower chance to win.
