Welcome to honournaija_blog, can we meet you?
Hi, my name is Obaloluwa Akinniyi-Tayo, I’m a professional photographer and I’ve been a photographer for about 5 years. I focus more on portraits, events and lifestyle. I do other types of photography too tho.
What inspired you to start this amazing business?
Inspiration into photography was majorly by my friends back in school, well they used to hype my phone skills and I had a camera at the time so I tried it, I was thrash at it but those boys kept motivating me. Then I discovered what I actually love about photography which is the fact that I can freeze a moment for life, I could create images that people would reference in 200 years and say “oba did that” images that’ll make people smile anytime they sight them. So keeping smiles actually inspired me greatly.
Excellent. When did you start and for how long?
I started in 2018 I guess, as a hobby, started making small cash from it though but didn’t go professional until late 2020. When I took it more serious and learnt a lot more about my craft.
What has been the challenges so far as an entrepreneur?
I can’t start to list them all but being a creative in Nigeria is a major challenge! But to list a few we have the cost of gadgets that keep going higher by the day, we have getting clients that would pay your rates, we have trying to keep all clients happy and rejecting the ones that can’t co-operate with our set rules. These are just a few of them but we move.
Can you say your customers has derived maximum satisfaction thus far?
Well yess!! With my full chest I can say I satisfy my clients with needs required of me that relate to photography.
Where do you see your business in the next 10years and what steps do you intend to take towards that vision?
In 10 years I hope to own a couple more studios around the country and outside Nigeria, and one of the biggest creative hubs in the western part of Nigeria. Taking steps by starting small, I have one already and hope to open a couple more.
What is/are your advice to young ones that would want to go into your kind of business?
If you want to go into photography you need to be sure you have passion for it and you’re not getting into it only for the money. It could be extremely frustrating and tiring at different times. Yes photography is expensive. Very expensive.
