Yummmmmy!!! I love honey than sugar. Growing up as a child, I would prefer taking honey to sugar. Why? Because I feel within me that inner convincing that honey makes one stay healthier than sugar.😎

But along the line, alot of honey has become adulterated which makes it unfit for the system.

So today, we have a young man in our midst who is not only a honey seller but has his hive and rears his own bees that produces good and quality pure honey.👯

Alright, thank you very much for having me here. My name is Akinboye Anuoluwapo. I am a graduate of University of Ilorin with a discipline in forestry and wildlife. I hail from Ekiti and currently I am an entrepreneur in honey production.

Thank you sir. What inspired you to go into this type of business sir?

According to NEPC, Nigeria consumes about 400,000 tonnes of honey annually, but produces less than 10% of the consumption, translating into an import bill of over $2B annually. This huge deficit in the sector spurred my interest in Beekeeping, and with the increasing demand for honey products, I realized that not only will I generate huge income but also introduce new bee-products to the market. I was also inspired by the pollination services of honeybees, as they directly pollinate about one-third of plants/plant products eaten by man. This would help promote food security and reduce hunger.

So fascinating! When did you start and for how long sir??

I started after a Practical year course on Agro-forestry system in my penultimate year in school, about 3 years ago.

That is quite great. What has been the challenges so far?

The major challenge in our business across Nigeria is the Vandalism of our apiaries (beefarms) by honey hunters and Fulani herdsman. They wait till there’s honey in the hives and they go to harvest and destroy the bee hives. Also the increasing rate of honey adulteration has also been affecting our marketing, as most people believe they can barely get pure and natural Honey again.

With the nature of challenges that engulfs our business today, what keeps pushing you through sir??

I’m a visionary entrepreneur with strong passion for what I do, so I believe so much that perseverance and resilience are the hallmarks of successful entrepreneurs, with time, I’ll get to where I see myself.

That is encouraging. Can you say your customers have derived maximum satisfaction?

Yes, they have. This is because Mercysweet Honey is a raw and undiluted Honey which gives all the health benefits natural honey provides.

Beautiful. Where do you see yourself in the next 10years?

Oh, I see my business becoming an international business and my brand been recognized and reckon with all over the world.

Great one. What is/are your advices to younger ones that would want to go into your type of business?

Well, as I’ve said, we need perseverance and resilience in this type of business (coupled with your passion), these are the things that will keep you moving amidst challenges in setting up a flourishing bee farm and in marketing a product that majority see to be “fake” anytime.
