Overview
The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship programme is one of three Master’s programmes offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) provides the UK government scholarship scheme led by international development objectives. It operates within the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) and offers a vivid demonstration of the UK’s enduring commitment to the Commonwealth.
By attracting individuals with outstanding talent and identifiable potential from all backgrounds and supporting them to become leaders and innovators on returning to their home countries, the CSC’s work combines sustainable development with the UK national interest and provides opportunities for international partnerships and collaboration.
How to apply
Commonwealth Shared Scholarship applications are now being accepted for the 2025–2026 school year. The closing date for applications is Thursday 12 December at 16:00 GMT. Scholarship recipients must start studying in the UK in September or October of 2025.
No applications or supporting materials submitted outside of the online application system will be accepted by the CSC.
In the days preceding the application deadline, the online application system will be quite active, therefore applicants are encouraged to finish and submit their applications as soon as possible.
In order to enroll in a Master’s program at a participating UK university, applicants must first apply.

Candidates may submit applications to many universities and courses, but they are only permitted to accept one Shared Scholarship offer. Please take note that these grants are only available for Master’s programs; undergraduate or doctoral studies are not eligible.
In addition to applying for a Shared Scholarship, candidates must also apply for and be accepted into the university course of their choice. For precise instructions on when to apply, admission requirements, and application procedures, please contact the selected university.
Supporting documentation
To be eligible, applications must contain supporting documents.
The following files must be uploaded by applicants with their application:
A copy of a current passport (or national ID card) with a photo, birthdate, and citizenship country on it serves as proof that the person is a citizen or has refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth nation.
Complete transcripts of any degrees earned, including current transcripts for any courses taken, together with certified translations in English if not. The application will be deemed ineligible if any transcripts are missing or do not contain all pages.
If any of the necessary supporting paperwork is missing before the deadline, applications will be deemed ineligible.
Supporting documentation supplied outside of the online application system will not be accepted by the CSC.
Applicant eligibility
To be considered for these scholarships, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2025.
- By September 2025, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
- Not have studied or worked for more than one (academic) year or more in a high-income country
- Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
- Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.
