NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Eddy Megwa has advised Corps Members to always remember their African Roots and culture no matter where they find themselves. He admitted that one’s culture gives them identity and encouraged the Corps Members to be proud of their various cultural backgrounds.

Megwa made the assertion yesterday during the Camp Cultural Carnival for the 2019 Batch “C” Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Obubra, Cross River State.

He stressed that the carnival should not just be for show, but should also serve as a platform where everyone is expected to learn one or two things from other cultures other than theirs.

He noted that the NYSC Camp Cultural Carnival is organised to promote national unity which is one of the major objectives of the scheme. He maintained that during the Carnival, the Corps Members are expected to reflect the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria, clarifying that it is also a means of celebrating and promoting unity in diversity.

Earlier in his remarks, Camp head of Socials, Ebony Daniel appreciated the Corps Members for utilizing the carnival to sensitize the entire camp community about Nigeria’s various cultural values and practices.

The carnival which was tagged; “Nigeria: Our Culture, Our Pride” was celebrated in a grand style at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Obubra, Cross River State where Corps Members showcased various cultural performances to stress the theme of the carnival.

The result of the colourful carnival saw Platoon 6 emerge as the overall carnival band. Platoons 5 and 4 came as the first and second runners up respectively, while Platoon 3 came fourth. Best costumed carnival band went to Platoon 5, whereas Platoon won the best cultural content carnival band.

Aso, most creative ideas carnival band went to Platoon 2, representative of Platoon 8 emerged as the best carnival queen while the representative of Platoon 9 emerged as the best carnival king.
