Google Takes Digital Skills For Africa Programme To NYSC Cross River Camp

Over five hundred 500 youth Corps Members have benefited from Mind the Gap digital skill Google Africa programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Obubra, Cross River State.

The training, which took place yesterday had Corps Members who operate Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises from different parts of the the country in attendance.

Resource person from Mind the Gap, who partnered with Google to train the Corps Members in the Google digital Skill programme, Engr. Letty Edet, said the aim of the programme was to advance entrepreneurship in the country as it joins170 other countries of the world to step up digital skills.

She said Google’s Digital Skills for Africa programme offers trainings to help individuals and communities develop and grow digital skills, find jobs and advance in their careers. She added that the programme provides free courses, tools and in-person digital training to students, educators, job seekers and businesses.

“The main focus of the training is to get Corps entrepreneurs to take advantage of the rich resource that is on the web, to look at the wealth that is in the web, and how they can use that to take their businesses to the next level. With the World Wide Web you can run your business without being in that location. This way, business becomes faster, easier and more sustainable,” Engr. Edet said.

She further defined marketing an integral part of every establishment either profit driven or not. She revealed that brands always have the need to project their products, services and or opinions, stating that It is however not enough to project but more important that the target audience become aware of these projections and at the right time. She emphasized this to be the basis for the introduction of the comparison between traditional and digital marketing, highlighting the limitations of traditional marketing.

Highlight was inter Platoon speech presentation on the topic, ‘National youth policy: A tool for effective leadership”, where Platoon 8 emerged as the winning Platoon.
